We are humans. And it is practically impossible to not keep expectations. Never stop expecting. Expect as much as you want. From your loved ones, family, friends, this society, universe or even God himself. But the new question is : how not to get disappointed because of expectations.

Expectations are necessary to survive and thrive. They help you to look forward to something in life. The secret to not get affected by unfulfilled expectations is just one : never base your happiness or sadness on your expectations being fulfilled.

Having said that, you can’t just expect things in your mind. One needs to define their expectations from the other person. And also clearly communicate them to the other person. You can not just hope people to read your minds. Sometimes, ego stops us from explaining our desires but it shouldn’t be the case.

Also, learn to accept. Acceptance is the beginning of selflessness & contentment. Communicate your expectations and whether they are fulfilled by the other person or not, learn to accept the consequences. Or else, don’t expect!

What happens in expectations is that some people have load of expectations from people. While some get fulfilled, others don’t. In that case one should be happy in those that got fulfilled and should make peace with those that didn’t. We should learn to look at the bigger picture.

And sometimes, if we look back we think it’s good some of the things that we wanted didn’t happen since God knows what’s best for us and that’s practically another reason we don’t always get what we want. We always get the things from the universe that we need.
